Plane Wash at KMVN, Mt. Vernon, IL 6/5/10
Get ready for some fun in the sun as it is wash time again at Mt. Vernon airport in Mt. Vernon, IL. Bring your plane in and enjoy breakfast with fellow pilots while the Women With Wings wash your plane. Prices start at $65 up and all monies go to the scholarship fund. The event runs from 9AM until 12 Noon (or the planes and supplies run out). This was an incredible amount of fun for a good cause last year. Don't miss out!
Compass Rose project assisting the 99's, Greenville 5/2/10
Well we had to postpone from May 1st, but it looks like we are locked and loaded to meet at Greenville airport in Greenville, IL on May 2nd, 2010. WWWingers will join forces and assist the St. Louis 99's by painting a 60 foot diameter compass rose on the airport tarmac. This is an exciting event and lunch will be provided. Contact Teresa Camp or any boardmember for directions and to RSVP.
WWWingers vote 2010 Board / Potluck 4/21/10
Ok gang, it's that time of year again to vote for the 2010/11 board. Please join us for a potluck meal at Eve's house to tally the votes. Your official ballot has been sent to you and as a member you have 5 votes to distribute among any or all of the 6 candidates. Contact any board member if you still need directions or have not received your ballot. Thank's to Eve for providing her home for this favorite event.
UPDATE: Eve Cascella, Cindy Pilling, Keri Evans, Teresa Camp, & Karan Hofmann were elected to the new board. Ms. Gloria Bahn is advisor and Founding Member at large.
Scott Air Force Base Tour and Lunch 3/10
Wow, what a day. It was cold and blustery but what a backdrop to watch the big Air Force iron touch down at Scott. Members shared a lunch together, then got to tour the airport tower and simulator. We toured the Air Mobility Command's H.Q. and ended with a personal tour of the C-21 fleet and the pilots who fly them. Thanks to members Karan and Steve for making this amazing tour available to us.
WWWingers celebrate members' special events! 2/10
Congratulations to the Jen's new baby and Melissa's new baby. The group joined together at the Camp's for a chance to meet the newest 'future' aviators! Also in attendance were Jenn Gritton and soon to be husband Chris. The membership celebrated all of these exciting events with some food, fun, and a cozy fire on a cold night.
WWWings donates to museum & scholarship! 2/10
The board proudly made a donation in name of the membership to the St. Louis Air Museum located at St. Louis downtown airport (Parks). The museum offered a keynote speech at the recent MACTS event highlighting their effort at archiving St. Louis's contributions to aviation over the last 100 years. The board further sought to solicit nominations for a scholarship sponsored by the membership. Any member can be considered or nominated by simply writing a one page or less citation describing your need or interest in aviation or the contributions of another deserving consideration. Submittals are due by March 1, 2010.
Sat. 1/30/10 - Movie Night at the KINGS!!!
Well get your popcorn ready and join the membership for a fun and relaxing evening of aviation flicks and fellowship at Tom and Melody King's residence. Contact any board member for directions. This is a true potluck so bring along a favorite food item to share. Movie will be "Pancho Barnes and the Happy bottom Riding Club" -try saying that 3 times fast! We will see you there!
January 23,24 2010 - MACTS / C. Pilling gets award!
The Midwest Aviation Conference and Trade Show was very successful again this year. Highlighted by our own Jeff Edwards speaking on accident investigations and Women With Wings President, Cindy Pilling's surprise award from the Regional Flight Instructors Membership. Cindy was provided a generous scholarship from Gloria Bahn and John Teipen to finish her CFI instructor training. Ms. Pilling was genuinely surprised at the honor and the hall of fellow pilots, WWWingers, and aviation enthusiasts gave her rousing applause. Follow this link for photos of the event.
December 2009 - Hotels help with platoon shipment!
Our members stepped up in a big way for our Marine platoon in 2009. We collected over 100lbs of gifts, snacks, toiletries & nearly $200 cash for postage to send 11 boxes overseas. Special Thanks to Keri Evans for her hotel contacts who contributed their support and Eve Cascella for coordinating packing/shipping and her artwork embellishments!
December 1, Holiday Potluck & Ornament Exchange
Honestly if you can make ONE meeting a year, plan on joining the crew for the annual holiday-fest at member Cindy Pilling's beautiful home 7pm. The meeting will be brief but the fun will be long with a chance to meet, greet, and partake in our secret ornament exchange. Bring a dish to share along with a wrapped aviation (or flying) themed ornament (optional) for fun. Also remember any supplies or gifts for our overseas platoon. We'll see you there !
November 13, Boeing Prologue room tour/dinner
Plan on attending this fantastic event at Boeing's own museum at 3:30 followed at 5pm with a movie One Six Right. We will meet at Cannoli's restaurant afterward off of Lindbergh/W.Washington in Florissant. Members of AIAA may join us to get a tour of St. Louis aviation history and then take in the movie and dinner.
November 5, Congratulations Gail Birkenmeier
Yes after some long study and fun flying, Gail joins the ranks of the few, the proud, the WOMEN WITH WINGS. Actually she always has been a member, but all greet her with a happy pat on the back for a job well done on earning her Private Pilot certificate!
October 28, Come make Greeting cards for the Troops!
Join your fellow WWWINGERs in making some custom greeting cards for our overseas platoon. This is a fun and easy project. Snacks will be served at Eve Cascella's home. Call any board member for directions.
October 13, Sandy Magnus - Astronaut speech
Enjoy hearing Astronaut Sandy Magnus discuss her adventures and rigor as a mission specialist on the Space Shuttle. Dinner reservations are extra but for members the speech is only $5.
October 10, 2009, Sci-Fest Paper Airplane event
Volunteers are needed at the science center from 9AM - 2PM to host our booth. We will have the paper airplane carrier landings and general info for visitors. This is our second year at this event. Thanks to Jen Moore & Boeing for the carrier prop.
Sadly our Girl Scout program at the Parks airport museum has been officially cancelled. Despite our best efforts, scheduling and marketing issues made this program fall through the cracks this round. We will consider future programs and more receptive venues to ensure success the next time we offer this outreach and educational seminar for kids.
Oct. 1st- 3rd, LSA Midwest Air Expo Mt. Vernon, IL
Well our friends at KMVN are hosting an air expo with lots of planes and people on their field related to G.A. Our available members will be volunteering to help with some of the logistics of this event. Contact Eve Cacella or Karan Hofmann if you have time to help. Pix Soon.
September '09 Glider Day Success!
What a perfect day to watch gliders and share fun with members new and old. We also took advantage of the Hofmann's command post RV to meet on our effort to make and send greeting cards to troops so THEY can have a quick way to send their loved ones notes on special days.We will post pictures soon of this event in our photo section.
August 29, 2009 Rhineland Valley Lake
What a way to end summer with a nice dip in the lake in care of Eve Cascella and company. They have vests for skiing and meat will be provided. Simply plan to attend around 10AM until whenever and bring a side dish. For directions contact Eve or Karan Hofmann.
July 18th '09 is our annual Picnic at Woodliff Airfield
It is hard to believe but another year has rolled over and we find ourselves lucky to congregate back at Keri E's house on the airstrip at Woodliff airfield near Foristell. If you need directions contact any board member. The event starts at Noon, and the feast begins at 1:00PM. Remember to bring your assigned pot luck dish and if you can contribute to our 'overseas Platoon' it would be most appreciated. The weather should be perfect and the company even better.
